Now, What in the World Would Cause This???

Fos_001Really, of all the things I have knitted and all the different types of yarn I have used, I have NEVER, EVER had this problem!  And, for the life of me, I can't figure out WHY this is happening!

You are looking at Ivy.  I am using Elann Quechua as is used in the pattern.  The yarn is splitty and the stitches have a tendency to look wonky if you are not careful.  No problem.  I can deal with that.  What I can not figure out is why the heck I am getting these lines in the fabric after I connect a new ball of yarn!  The first time I connected a new ball, Ivy had been sitting for awhile and so I thought maybe it sat too long, maybe I did something wrong and my stitches were twisted.  So, I ripped back to that spot, reconnected the yarn, and WHAM - there is that darn line again!  I just said "Whatever".  Maybe blocking will take care of it.

Well, last night I connected another ball of yarn and it happened
again!  Now this time, I KNOW I didn't do anything wrong.  Has anyone had this problem before?  The first row of the new ball of yarn has a weird line and it looks like the stitches are twisted - when in fact, they are not.  I am just going to keep knitting this thing and hope that blocking will help.  I don't know what else I can do about it except start over in another yarn.  That is not going to happen either.  So please, if you know a fix to this or a why to this, please let me know because it is a bit irritating!

On a better note, however, I have decided to a post a couple pics of FO's.  The first pic is of Exie wearing a sweater I knit for her last winter.  It is a pattern from Loop-d-Loop and I used Misti
Alpaca.  Exie is wearing it today and it looks much better on her this year because it fits her perfectly now.  Last year it was a bit big.  I love this little child - she loves wearing my knits!

I had previously posted pics of Sophie's Girlfriend Swing Coat but I hadn't photographed her wearing it yet.  So, here she is.  Don't mind the pink Monster Teeth.  She insisted on having them in her mouth for the pictures.  I love Sophie too, obviously, but she is the child that does not like to wear my knits.  More so, she just doesn't like sweaters very much.  So, from now on, I will stick to knitting her hats or mittens until she changes her mind.

Hmmm, besides Ivy, I am plugging away on Chelsea (see post below).  I have finished the back and one sleeve.  I am hoping to finish the entire sweater by Sunday......but don't hold me to it!  It is just a goal.  I should also be receiving the yarn for Camille's sweater any day and I will be finishing that up too.  She is so excited....it makes the effort soooo much more worth it.

Your daughters are beautiful and the sweaters are awesome... colors are perfect and the detail stitching is uber cool. I wish I could help you with the weird line in your project... I have experienced that in crocheting.

Just a random thought.... How much twist does the yarn have? Could some of the twist in the yarn have been released at the free end?

I've noticed a similar thing when I switch but I thought is was just due to slack stitches for some reason. Maybe it'll even up in the blocking.(?)

The coat really is cute.

I know you're just waiting with baited breath to see who has figured out your "line" problem ... I've never noticed that happening with my knits (YET), but I wonder if it will go away during blocking?

I wish I had adorable girls like yours to knit for! TOO CUTE!

Once again, those girlies of yours are just too cute...and I love the swing coat, the pink teeth totally make the outfit! Exie looks like a little ray of sunshine, you can just see the pure joy oozing out of her!

Thank you so much for your kind words. You provided some much needed words of wisdom and I really appreciate it.

Your FOs look great! Love the pink monster teeth. Very puzzling about that line...who knows what the deal is. Hope you have a lovely Thanksgiving!

Are you joining at the side or in the line of knitting? I don't keep up with the characteristics of different yarns, but could it be a question of elasticity or lack of it? Therefore join only at the side?

You're daughters are adorable! Pooh to not wearing hand knits, but you never know, she may change her mind someday and turn into a knit fan like us :)
Ive never encountered a situation like your above mentioned (yarn lines). Do hope you figure out the mystery!

That's strange about the lines. I'm sorry I can't help. I hope that someone can.

Both your girls look lovely in their knits. The Swing Coat looks so stylish!
